Abnormal pap smear, 7mos pregnant? HELP!!!?
i had a an abnormal pap smear and a colposcopy.. not scary at all do not worry! you may need to get a cryocautery also.. it kills all the abnormal cells, this is also not scarey. hpv is curable.. no worries. most peoples bodies if they are healthy fight it off within 2 years.I hate to be the bearer of bad news.... but your doc should have told you. If you are scheduled for a colposcopy, the pap found epithelial abnormalities (ASC, HSIL, or LSIL). This means that you have HPV, without a doubt. There is no need to test for it, it is a sure thing. Neither using a dildo the night before nor a yeast infection can cause this specific type of cell changes. But don't worry, everyone has it!! (90% of sexually active adults 18-35).
I would call and ask about the specific cell changes that the pap smear found. Why are you so worried about having HPV? You are doing everything right, just continue to have your annual pap smears, and everything will be fine. The type that causes cervical changes doesn't cause warts. Also, as long as you are heterosexual, you don't have to worry about giving it to anyone.....no worries, you are in good hands!!!I'm sorry to break the news to you, but Krisitin is right. From what you've said I can pretty much tell you that you have HPV. Actually, the fact that you're pregnant and thus have most likely had sex also let me say that you probably have HPV.
Yeast infections and having sex can cause abnormal paps, but the cells look different than the abnormal cells caused by HPV. If your doctor scheduled a colposcopy, the pathology report probably indicated that the abnormality looked precancerous. The result was probably ASCUS, ACS-H, or LSIL, whereas with the yeast infection would cause the patholgy report to say "nonreactive atypia."
Having HPV isn't really a big deal . . . studies have show more than 90% of people have some sort of HPV. You've probably had it for years. Pregnancy surpresses your immune system, so that might be why you are having HPV (and herpes) symtoms now.
They test for HPV using the sample from your pap smear, but most doctors don't do an HPV unless you specifically request it. Sometimes doctors will do an HPV if there is an abnormal pap, but some don't. It a surprisingly commmon practice for doctors to treat women and never let them know their issues are caused by HPV. I have shocked many women (including my mother and my therapist) by letting them know that they had HPV.
