What is Herpes Simplex Virus?

Article by Medavir dcosta

The Simplex Herpes Virus is the cause of a disease that is characterized by watery blisters in the mucous membrane of the mouth, lips, genitals or skin. The infection is highly recurrent and improper medication can further aggravate it. The notorious outbreaks happen usually near the areas of infection. The worst characteristic of the herpes simplex virus is that it becomes dormant after its cycle and resurfaces with another attack of viral reactivation. During these resurfacings, the virus spreads to different parts of the body via the nerve to the skin and replicates. Usually, the first outbreak is the most severe after exposure to the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), since the body does not get any time to produce antibodies.

Herpes Simplex 1 (HSV1) and Herpes Simplex 2 (HSV2) are two kinds of herpes viruses and together they lead to an outbreak. HSV1 is responsible for facial sores or fever blisters, whereas HSV2 causes outbreaks in the genitals.

The herpes simplex virus lives in the nervous system of the exposed human and is known to cause lifelong infections. Being a virus, it becomes latent by attaching itself to the axons of the nerves. Medication can reduce the likelihood of shedding, thus checking the contagiousness. However, no medicine has so far shown perfect results.

Herpes Simplex is Contagious and Fatal

Herpes simplex is contagious. During the replication, some of the virus sheds off as well. This in turn, infects those people who have been in close contact with the carrier or infected person. During outbreaks, it is best to stay away, since the likelihood of being infected with herpes is very high. The Herpes Simplex virus can spread through shedding from the skin, through saliva or through genital discharge.

The most fatal form of transmission could be from a pregnant mother to her unborn child. With a weak immune system, the fetuses are unable to defend themselves and tragically, in many cases, the infection results in brain damage.

Not just this, the Herpes Simplex Virus damages the cells of the nervous system that it clings to and increases the possibility of Alzheimer's, another incurable disease in which one loses retention skills.

Herpes Simplex Virus - How It Spreads

As in the case of many viruses, HSV1 and HSV2 also become latent. The virus works by preserving the infected cell or prolonging the death of the cells. During this time, it gets time to move on to other cells. This allows the virus to spread and infect other body parts.

Herpes Simplex Virus: Treatment

A large number of therapies have been tested, such as the use of small bandwidth electromagnetic radiation, different light streams of varying wavelengths, etc. They all have been found to prevent the outbreak of herpes but none have been able to show curing powers.
