Know anything about herpes medication?
Lysine is used to treat oral herpes. Why would you want to take 2 medications for the same problem? Use the Valtrex as directed. If you weren't taking this medication, then Lysine would be an option for you. I don't believe taking the two of these together would be advised by any pharmacist.Take the Valtrex. The Valtrex helps me, because my outbreaks don't stay as long. And I'm taking 1 gram, but I only take it when I need it. If it's 500mg you're suppose to be taking it twice a day for 5 days. Also, if your doctor doesn't know, you might want to talk to another doctor or asked to be referred. Lysine is basically for oral herpes, like the other person said. You don't need it, the Valtrex will take care of everything.Yes! You can take Lysine with Valtrex
First of all, to address JB's "why would you take more than one medicine for the same problem?" This is called adjunctive therapy and is more common in the medical field than 'monotherapy' or taking only one medicine for something. Just ask someone with bad diabetes or high blood pressure how many meds they are on. Different drugs can hit the problem from different angles and sometimes work synergistically. Often more than one drug is needed.
Lysine is a natural supplement and would be a great addition. You can take the two together without any worries. Lysine is not a drug, it is a naturally occurring amino acid (an essential one your body needs), however, just in case I did look through a few pharmacology databases to make sure there weren't any interactions. There are none.
Lysine slows the replication of the herpes virus and helps herpes lesions heal faster (Griffith, 1987). It does not have a ton of research behind it (probably because drug companies can't patent a natural substance and make money off it). Also, Lysine may improve energy production and also helps calcium absorption (which is important as a woman). Sounds win win to me!
So yes, it would actually be a great idea to add Lysine on board.
