You can get it from kissing but you would be more likely to get it if she had a cold sore at the time.
Most of the time cold sores are passed on during child hood by being innocently kissed or kissing some one that has cold sores, this could have happened to you when you were a child. I think you may have had cold sores long before you kissed this girl.
The sore throat is obviously from yelling at the party. Oral herpes doesn't commonly cause sore throats unless it breaks out on the inside of the mouth which isn't common.
If you really want to know you can have a doctor take a look at it and test you for oral herpes (HSV)
