These are the common symptoms and signs to look for when self diagnosing the herpes virus, and are specific to the two most common harmful types, namely Simplex1(HSV1) cold sores or fever blisters and Simplex 2(HSV2)genital herpes. The first visible symptoms are usually a couple of small sores or swellings, and these develop into the more common, full blown symptoms which are: painful blister-and-wound-like sores & pimple-like warts (herpes bumps), red itchy skin similar to a common rash in and around the genital area, burning sensation when urinating, swollen lymph glands in the groin, and general swelling. In extreme cases the symptoms also include headaches, muscle aches, fever and lower back pain. Females may also experience a painful swelling developing inside the vagina and occasionally also a vaginal discharge.
