Is it possible for herpes to lie dormant for 15 years?

Definately possible to go 15 years w/o an outbreak. Many people have one outbreak and never have a second. That does NOT mean they aren't capable of spreading it.

I would have your husband tested. NOWi just discovered i had herpes simplex which is basically skin herpes and i only had one tiny breakout on my lower back. i must have had it for years, and i'm told once it goes away i'm only likely to get anouther one in 20 years or so. at any rate, go get tested. and don't worry, herpes is something that yes you could have forever but it can be put under control.It is possible...everyone break out schedule differs...for instance some make break out the first time and never again, some never at all, some once a years, others every month and even more often than that. If it was just one painful bump that went away within a few days that does not sound like herpes. As well genital herpes can be transfered from oral herpes aka (cold sore). I would def. have some testing to be safe. good luck
