How do they test for herpes?
There are antibodies for herpes in your blood which is what they look for. Herpes isn't passed through blood contact bur through skin to skin contact.
Usually if you have an out break they will take a swab of it and test that for herpes.The blood test is called the Western Blot. It detects the virus' antibodies. As a matter of fact it is not recommended that anyone who is active... having an outbreak... should donate blood. The only other way to test is to culture (swab) an actual lesion during an outbreak. If you are looking for a diagnosis and are not having an outbreak the blood test will tell.they hold up your picture and ask if the patient has had intercourse with you
