What medication are you on?
Alot of the antivirals say that once an outbreak is fully in gear then medication is not as effective. This is true to some measure but you need to allow the medication time to build in your system.
I have had many people tell me that it seemed the medication was not working then they see drastic improvement very quickly.
Take ibuprofen or tylenol to help ease some of your pain. When you are home expose it to fresh air and try not to wear any clothing that might be constricting when possible.
I know it is tuff but it will go away, the plus side also is once this inital outbreak goes away it usually will calm down in future outbreaks and they will not be nearly as painful as this one is.

I would be happy to help you in anyway that I can.

EMTTry and go back to your doctor I'm sure they will be as supportive as possible and help your situation by prescribing you something else or re-educating you about its use.Try pouring warm water over your genitals when you go.
If you just started taking the meds then they take a few days to sink in and start working. If you have taken them for more then a week and they are not doing any thing for you then you may want to consider going back to the doctor and trying a different medication.
You can try taking pain killers and using things like Abreva or Lipactin to help heal the out break.Or you can also try diluted 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and apply it to the out break.
Try to calm your self down, stressing out will only make things worse. There is also Lysine it's more natural then the meds but don't take Lysine and the meds at the same time.
