no once you have herpes you have them for life or until some one can find a cure for them.to stop it being spread to another sexual partner no. if it is just to supress the virus in the first episodes people will take them for example for 6 months then stop to see if any breakout occurs if it does then they will be taken again for another set time. eventully in some people once the body has learnt to deal with virus better the body doesn't breakout as much if not at all, this usally happens naturally many years after the infection was caughtIt's your choice to take the meds if you have herpes. You should take the meds regularly if you are in an intimate or sexual relationship as the med can help prevent spreading herpes to your partner. Some people only take medication for their out breaks some take it every day. But it can do some damage to your liver if you take it every day for very long periods of time. I have hepres and I only take medication when I have an out break, my partner gave me herpes, he has them too so I don't need to worry about spreading it.
