Condom every time with Herpes, but on meds?
Condom every time with Herpes, but on meds?
condoms are the only way to protect yourself effectively from most stds. you'd probably not have genital herpes in the first place had you always used one ;-)
you actually CAN use condoms for oral sex, too, you know ;-)If you contracted HSV-1 genitally through oral sex and are on Valtrex, the chance of you infecting a partner is only around 2%. If you have sex with a partner who already has HSV-1 cold sores, the chance is even less. Here is a good article you really should read:
http://www.herpes-coldsores.com/herpes_simplex_1_and_2.htmIf she is on Valtrex that would suppress the virus making her less likely to spread herpes to her partners. The risk of passing it on would be about less then 5 percent if Valtrex and abstaining during any signs of an out break is used.
You should know that genital herpes can be passed even if condoms are used. Herpes is passed through skin to skin contact usually during sexual activity. Condoms don't offer 100 percent protection against herpes because herpes can affect all ares of the genitals and a condom is not big enough to cover all of that.
She still has herpes even if she has only had one out break. But there is still VERY small chance of passing herpes on in between out breaks.
