(Australia) Whats the best treatment for mouth herpes?
not having sexwell, symptoms will go away, temporarily, but the virus stays forever. he will be dealing with random outbreaks for the rest of his life [for now, until they invent a cure]
there are medications which will lessen the outbreaks, but from now on tell him to be careful about spreading it, and that he could still spread it when hes not having an outbreak.
I think zovirax, is helpful in treating it, and Valtrex, Famvir, Denavir. Most if not all of these, you cannot get without a doctors prescription. btw, i know you already said you know what it is, but self diagnosis isnt really a wise decision, and doctors will not say anything to embarrass you. They are doctors. they have seen EVERYTHING imaginable, and herpes on the mouth [aka cold sores] are EXTREMELY common and a doctor could best help him get rid of his symptoms, and keep them away.
your doctor is on your side!!
and let him know its not the end of the world.Ahh...cold sores... I have those and I manage mine by the following.
I take L-lysine every day; 500 mg. When I feel that itchy feeling and start to feel that bump, I increase it to 1000 mg til it goes away, then only take 500. I very rarely have breakouts on my lips anymore.
L-lysine is an amino acid. It works by shortening the time the sore is on your lip. When I do that, yes I still see a sore, but its not as big nor does it last as long.
I will use lip balm products that have Salycilic acid or a Salicylate in it, or a Phenol such as Carmex, that helps dry up the sore. Preparations with lemongrass in it work as well.
Yes there are oral anti-virals out there, if you want to use them; I tend to steer clear unless I really need them, they are rather hard on the system.
The virus proper, sleeps in dormancy in the Trigeminal nerve region, (area on the side of your head, near your ears); when it becomes active it will migrate down the nerves.
