how much does the herpes medication help in not spreading the virus?

its very effective. Valtrex can reduce the risk of transmission to 2% :)studies show that for a whole year of unprotected sex where one partner has herpes and the other doesn't if the one with herpes is on valtrex the chances of transmission are less than 1% per year. i have had herpes for 10 years been on suppressants for nine and never given herpes to anyone. my husband still does not have it (and he gets tested every year) and we've been having unprotected oral, vaginal and anal sex for seven years. also when i first started dating no guy ever cared that i had it, several of them also had it and the others said it was no big deal. if you are dating REAL men they won't care, usually only teens and guys in their college years care b/c they are immature and ignorant and know nothing about std's.I think once you are on the meds you'll know when an outbreak will happen...Stress is a big one. Anyway to hide and not be with anyone is a mistake,now it's not a roll in the hay anymore you'll have to let the other person know what's going on. It sucks to have this , life's not over but it gets better with some time.
