Sorry, but nothing over the counter will help. You are going to need to get either Valtrex or the generic, Valacyclovir to help with the pain and the outbreaks. My recommendation would be having your doctor write you a script for Valtrex (an antiviral that is designed to treat the herpes virus) and Zovirax ointment (this is a topical antiviral that will help the blisters clear up faster as well as reduce the pain, itching, and burning associated with them). Unfortunately, length of outbreaks is unpredictable. You may have a mild outbreak that lasts a few days or a bad outbreak that lasts a few weeks. Taking the antivirals will not immediately get rid of the symptoms but will definitely help speed up the process. Good luck!
