herpes simplex type one, causes cold sores, the virus lives in your nervous system, and no, it never goes away. It doesn't affect your ability to have kids, but, you should never participate in oral sex as you can transmit the virus with your mouth whether you have an active sore or not. Your partner would not be happy to develop genital herpes, and that can result from oral sex. Keep your hands away from your genitals when you have an active lesion, and always wash before and after touching your genital area, this will prevent you from transmitting the virus from your mouth to your genitals and self infecting. When you do get a cold sore, you can ask your doctor for valtrex.HSV-1 most often occurs around the mouth area. However, it can be transferred to the genitals through oral sex. I was infected with HSV-1 about 5 years ago. I had 3 cold sores and that's it!!! Most people keep the virus dormant. 80% of the adult population has the virus except youd on't see 80% o people with cold sores!

Most people (50% to 80%) already have it, though. It is incredibly common. It is NOT an STD, assuming that you have it orally, and not genitally.
Don't kiss anyone or give anyone oral sex when you have a cold sore. If you have HSV1 genitally, then you are unlikely to get any more outbreaks, and aside from telling future partners that there is a small risk of them catching your genital herpes, there isn't much you can do.
That's pretty much all anyone ever does about HSV1, unless they have a very severe case.
