sucks to be that guy.Chances are the person you were with will have herpes now too. Contact the person right away and talk. Unfortunatly, its the only way to keep the other person safe too.No symptoms [sores] = highly unlikely he caught H.
Hopefully no sores are in the anal canal and out of sight.
It's easier to check the anus visually for sores than the female genitals where small sores can be harder to find, and they can be on the cervix.
