Help Please...Could This be Herpes?

Help Please...Could This be Herpes?

no herpes is like a hard knot, that gets purple and very sore to the touch.and it will break open and sometimes it goes away without breaking open.you will know, its painful i hear and it resembles a wart,it will get a crusty head.you dont sound like u have it.get tested tho, dont worry. The above answerer may be correct about their own herpes symptoms, but mine have never been that way. Mine have ALWAYS been like small cuts on my genitals - never like blisters, and certainly never like "a hard knot." They hurt like a paper cut. Herpes symptoms usually don't leave scars, though, so the little scar is actually a good sign that perhaps its an injury and not herpes.

Unfortunately, the best thing to have done would have been to have gone to a doctor when you still had the sore. The absolute best way to diagnose herpes is with a swab of the sore itself.

At this point, if you did catch herpes from your last partner, enough time has passed that you will get an accurate blood test. But a blood test can only tell you THAT you have herpes, not WHERE you have it. If you caught genital HSV1 from oral sex, for example, you'll get a positive HSV1 test, but you won't know if it is genital or oral.

If it were me, I would

a) keep your eyes open for another sore - likely in the same place. If its HSV2, it may recur - and it would likely recur in almost the same location. If one appears, go to your MD and request a swab of the sore.

b) get a blood test for HSV1 and HSV2. If it comes back positive for HSV2, then I'd assume genital herpes (sorry.) If it comes back positive for HSV1, then you either have oral herpes (not a huge deal) or genital HSV1 (which is technically genital herpes, but is unlikely to recur and is usually not spread from genital to genital unless symptoms are present.)

And just a heads up - condoms don't do a great job of protecting against herpes. So the fact that it was not protected sex is not a huge issue in this case.

Good luck.
