Can having genital herpes keep people from certain types of jobs?
Genital herpes is only passed via intercourse/sex and unless your job was in the porn industry, then I don't see how it would affect your job. Viral meds reduce greatly the risk and sometimes eliminate outbreaks in people. If outbreaks do occur, they are greatly reduced in duration and pain.
I'm sure there maybe a few extreme jobs out there they require you to be HPV negative, but not sure what they are. The military does however have a statement that if you have a known medical condition that will keep you from performing your duties or can't be treated and runs a high risk of infection they can keep you out. But herpes falls under the realm of treatable and non-threatening to the health of the other GIs. So they would let you in.You must have been looking at those really horrific images on the internet. Those are absolute worst case first-outbreak scenarios; most people don't have outbreaks that look like that!
Would you ask the same thing of someone who had oral herpes aka cold sores? Because it is the same thing. Do you think a cold sore would interfere with someone's ability to perform surgery?
A typical recurrent herpes outbreak is pretty mild, and for the majority of people is more a slight bit of discomfort than pain.
My outbreaks are genital, and they are honestly no worse, no bigger, and no more painful than a small zit or spot - just as most oral herpes outbreaks are. I often have to look for them because I can't really feel them! A lot of people have such mild ones, they don't even realise they have herpes.

A severe oral herpes outbreak - just as bad as a severe genital herpes outbreak (I've never had one this bad) but would an oral herpes outbreak like this be enough to interfere with your job? I don't think so:
