Ture or false....are these 3 examples real probable ways to catch herpes on the lips?
Ture or false....are these 3 examples real probable ways to catch herpes on the lips?
The only actual way to catch herpes would be #2.
One is highly unlikely, but possible.
Three is impossible.
ADD: The only way that herpes could ever be caught in any way that resembles "airborne" is if someone with an active oral herpes outbreak was speaking very close to you and was spitting on your mouth. It is highly unlikly transmission would occur this way.
Many people have cold sores or oral herpes (greater than 60% of the population). It is much more likly she got it from kissing a boyfriend or sharing drinks or lip products with one of her girlfriends.
So now you have the info from another nurse.I think 1 and 2 are obviously probable ways to catch it especially #2. #1 is possible but seems unlikely that someone with the infection at the time will spit and it will land on an open cut on your lip and get in your system but if that happens then you can catch it. As for #3 the virus doesn't live for more than a few seconds in the air so that's not likely plus there would need to be a lot of it. If that were possible most people would be walking around with herpes in their eyes and nose in addition to their lips.
By the way this is a really good question and I just read that chlamydia can be caught in the eye if someone who has the virus sneezes or coughs on it!!GOOD QUESTIONS! No one should ever be embarassed to ask these questions or any questions about their help. Remember the only stupid questions are the ones that aren't asked! ANYWAYS! I have Herpes Simplex 1 which is the kind that causes those sores around the mouth. I've done a lot of research on it since I have quite a few outbreaks so here's my somewhat "EDUCATED OPINON" on the three scenarios!
1. I'd say that the chances of getting this way is VERY slim (almost zero) so FALSE.
2. Sharing drinks is a good way to spread the Herpes Virus so TRUE.
3. This scenarion is 100% not possible so FALSE.
Here's some 411 from "Herpes Doctor.com" that also tells you ways that you can contract or spread Herpes Simplex 1:
Tips for Herpes Simplex Patients and Their Families
Oral Herpes
Do not kiss, or dry kiss anyone during an outbreak
Do not engage in oral sex, or any other sexual activity that involves your mouth
Wash your hands regularly
Do not touch the affected area
Use an antiviral Herpes treatment such as Zovirax or Vectavir
Do not share drinks, food or anything else that touches your mouth then someone else's
Do not share towels, face cloths etc
HOPE THIS HELPS! My best advice is that if you are worried about getting the virus, follow the simple advice of not sharing drinks, towels, or even like a cigarette. If you notice even the tiniest little sore on someone, do NOT kiss them. You could also come right out and ask someone that you want to be intimate with if they have any STDs or Herpes Simplex 1 (which is not considered an STD like Herpes Simplex 2 but SImplex 1 can also cause genital sores although rare).
