Herpes test?
Herpes test?
First question is whether you thought to protect yourself with a condom. Answer is probably no. In that case, go to your nearest Planned Parenthood to get tested.
Signs and tests:
Viral culture of lesion is positive for herpes simplex virus.
Tzanck test of skin lesion is consistent with herpesvirus (this test is rarely done).
Treatment:
Treatment of genital herpes does not cure the disease but can relieve the symptoms. Treatment can rapidly decrease the pain and discomfort associated with an outbreak and shorten the healing time.
Expectations (prognosis):
Once infected, the virus stays in the body for the rest of a person's life. Some people never have another episode, and some have frequent recurrences throughout the year. Subsequent infections tend to occur after sexual intercourse, exposure to the sun, and after stressful events. In individuals with normal immune systems, genital herpes remains a localize and bothersome infection but seldom a life-threatening infection.
Men often carry the disease, but do not exhibit the symptoms, so it would be best if you do not have sex with anyone unprotected from now on.Was she having an outbreak when you had sex? If not the chances that you caught it from her are less than 3%. You should wait 7 to 10 days before you get any test done. It may be to early for it to show up. Your body needs time to form anti bodies for the virus before it will show up on any blood test. They can do a swab test only if you have sores. Thats anouther reason to wait the 7 to 10 days to get tested, it takes that long for any sores to show up.Next time be more carefull and use a condom. They are not 100% effective for herpes though since it only takes skin to skin contact to catch it. Live virus can be on the skin with no vissable signs like a sore. Good luckThe first outbreak usually occurs within two weeks after the virus is transmitted, and the sores typically heal within two to four weeks. Other signs and symptoms during the primary episode may include a second crop of sores, and flu-like symptoms, including fever and swollen glands. However, most individuals with HSV-2 infection never have sores, or they have very mild signs that they do not even notice or that they mistake for insect bites or another skin condition.
If you're going to get tested, make sure that it's a blood test. And for safe measures, you might want to get tested again within in the next two weeks. Hope this helps! Good Luck!!!!
