What percentage of people living with the herpes simplex virus show symptoms?
I am sorry but I do not know the exact percentage, but I do know there are a lot of people with diseases and viruses that are not showing outward signs. there is even a commercial on t.v. for a genital herpes suppression drug that says something about how most cases are passed on because the person did not even know they were infected.Most people have encountered HSV (demonstrable by antibodies in the blood) by age 18 months. The virus can take up silent residence in nerve ganglia, and come out at times of stress. Relatively few people are symptomatic at any one time--perhaps only a few percent of the population. But there are probably more with subclinical infections who shed the virus.
Bottom line, a few percent have obvious vesicles or sores.It is supposed to be only about 20% that have symptoms or are aaware of their infection. The rest either have no symptoms or such minor symptoms they get mistaken for something else.
However, the people that have no symptoms can still be infectious and pass the virus on.

All thanks to Dr. UTU if not for him I don't know what will have become of me today. I married my husband who was HIV positive like myself. We accepted it as fate since there is no cure.
