Prevalence and risk factors for infec-tion with herpes simplex virus type-1 and -2 among lesbians. Lesbians can transmit this virus to each other if they have intimate contact with someone with a lesion or touching infected skin even when an outbreak is not visible.No sex or touching down there until it is cleared.The fact that it may be two women or a man and a women makes little difference when it comes to genital herpes.
Genital herpes is spread by skin to skin contact. Those with HSV-2 (Genital infection) can pass it to partners with oral sex and cause a HSV infection in the mouth or on the outside as cold sores. So skin to skin contact is all that is needed to pass this virus. Denture dams will help mitigate the risk but cannot help 100%.
When there is an active infection (sores or visable or symptoms can be felt) she will be extremely contagious and all sexual contact should be avoided during this time even with taking suppressive therapy pills.
Suppressive therapy helps cut down on HSV from shedding. Shedding is when the virus travels back to the mucous membranes of the site of the Original infection and begins to replicate itself. The tricky part is with herpes the virus could still be shedding even when no symptoms are present. Suppressive therapy helps cut this shedding down but you can never ever be sure that you will not catch the infection even when no symptoms are present.
The best thing you can do is to protect yourself to the maximum degree possible to help stop the virus from spreading to you.

All thanks to Dr. UTU if not for him I don't know what will have become of me today. I married my husband who was HIV positive like myself. We accepted it as fate since there is no cure.
