Is there such a thing as a false positive on a herpes test? how many times should you double check?
All tests have false positives and false negatives. With swabs and cultures, false negatives are quite common. With antibody tests on the blood, keep in mind that fever blisters are also herpes simplex, so you could have a positive blood test from a cold sore you had when you were a toddler. Or he could be an asymptomatic chronic carrier with a false-negative swab. It's a bit too soon for either psychiatrists or handguns, at any rate!If you had a swab and he had a blood test, it is more likely that he has a false negative than that you have a false positive.
I think unless they got the results mixed up, a false positive from a swab would be extremely unlikely.
However, on blood tests, depending on which one he was given, false negatives happen between 3-10% of the time.
