A cold sore is HSV1 so it's possible those are the antibodies that showed up. Approximately 80% of the populations has these.
You didn't say where the cultures were taken from...There is no such thing as "having it but not having it." If your blood test was positive, then you have it. If the cultures were negative, it's most likely that you aren't having an outbreak right now, so there was nothing TO culture that COULD come up positive.
Having the flu wouldn't make any difference. I believe a fever blister is actually a cold sore (which is also a result of having herpes). You might not have any sores down there, but that just means that you're not having an outbreak right now, people can go for a long time in between outbreaks. You didn't specify what type of herpes you have, either, I assume it's type 1 since you got the cold sore. If you have type 1 and it's not in your genital area, you won't ever get a rash down there. However, you can still spread genital herpes to a partner if you give them oral sex while you have a cold sore. If you have a cold sore and you kiss someone, and then they go down on YOU, they could spread the virus to your genital area as well.
The safest thing to do is avoid any type of sexual activity (including kissing) while you have a cold sore.Peaches is right on the money. Swab tests are VERY accurate IF they come back positive. But sometimes they just don't collect enough virus to come back positive - even though you have the virus.
If you've got a positive blood test, then you have herpes. Most people assume that a positive blood test for HSV1 means that they have oral herpes, and a positive blood test for HSV2 means genital herpes. Either strain can infect either place, but HSV1 is indeed most often oral, and HSV2 is most often genital.

ReplyDeleteI feel so excited today because it's just a year since I got my breakthrough from Herpes.I was diagnosed of HSV1 on the 12/4/2015 and latter i got affected with the HSV2.
