The obvious difference between oral herpes and genital herpes is where in the body their respective symptoms occur. Oral herpes begins with a tingling in or around the lip area. Genital herpes starts with a tingling or burning in or around the genitals. In both cases, the sensitive area develops a red inflammation that eventually turns into a sore and blister. In the case of oral herpes, there may be one or two sores, one beside the other.
